Nature of Work

This is skilled work at the sub-journey level in a trade such as plumbing or carpentry. Incumbents are responsible for manual labor work in the upkeep and repair of commercial, industrial, and residential buildings, facilities, equipment, and grounds.

Education and Experience

The knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired through, but are not limited to, the following combination of education and/or experience. Three (3) years of experience in the operation of tools and equipment of the type assigned to this class.

Special Qualifications

Depending upon the division in which an incumbent is assigned, he or she may be required to possess and maintain a valid class "O" automobile driver's license or a class "B" commercial driver's license with "N" endorsement and no air brake restriction.

Pay Range

$20.98 with step increases to $27.60 Hourly

Examination Information

The examination will consist of a structured interview, which will be scheduled at a later date. The structured interview is designed to assess job-related knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. The final eligibility list will be assembled from those candidates achieving a passing score of 50% on the structured interview (100% weight).

Veteran Points

To claim five (5) points for veteran's preference, you must submit proof of service (such as a DD-214) that includes the date of induction, date of honorable separation, and Social Security number. (You must have completed more than 180 consecutive days of active duty.) To receive an additional five (5) points credit for disability, you must submit proof of eligibility from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs dated within the last 12 months.

This information must be submitted to the Human Resources Department by March 24, 2026.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in at least two of the building trades.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in the building trades.
  • Knowledge of the geography of the City of Omaha.
  • Skill in the use and maintenance of assigned tools and equipment.
  • Ability to understand sketches, plans, and area maps.
  • Ability to prepare reports of work completed and materials used.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and members of the general public.
  • Ability to understand oral or written instructions.
  • Ability to adhere to safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Ability to reach, balance, bend, squat, kneel, crouch, crawl, stand, walk, push, pull, and lift 50 to 100% of the time and to climb and stoop from 50 to 75% of the time.
  • Ability to use up to one hundred (100) pounds of force occasionally, up to fifty (50) pounds of force frequently, and up to twenty (20) pounds of force constantly to move objects.
