Base pay range

$31.30/hr - $36.52/hr

Summary

This position is assigned to the Electrical shop within the Engineering service line for the Nebraska Western Iowa Health Care System. Incumbent performs preventative maintenance, installations, troubleshooting and repairs on electrical systems having voltages up to 480 VAC. DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY:
This position is being filled using Direct-Hire Authority (5 CFR 337.201) for this occupation.

EXPERIENCE:

A specific length of training and experience is not required - but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT:
Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen-out element. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements:
Ability to Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work), Ability to Use Electrical Drawings, Knowledge of Electrical Equipment Technical Practices, Theory and Instruments (Electrical – Electronic) Used in Shop and Trade Practices, Troubleshooting (Electrical). Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can translate directly to paid employment.

Physical Requirements:

Much of the work requires physical strain from lifting, pushing, and carrying heavy units. The incumbent will work from ladders and scaffolds and may perform tasks in standing, stooping, kneeling, and crawling positions. Frequently lifts and carries tools, equipment, and parts weighing up to 20 pounds and, less often, up to 40 pounds. Occasionally lifts or moves with assistance moderately heavy objects weighing more than 75 pounds.

You will be asked to participate in a pre-employment examination or evaluation as part of the process for this position.

Working Conditions:

Incumbent must work inside and outside, sometimes under extreme weather. Repairs are frequently in wet, dirty, dusty, or greasy areas and may involve working on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 feet or more, in close quarters such as manholes and crawlspaces, above ceilings, and in attics. Exposure to cuts, bruises, potential injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, and rotary devices is possible.

Personal protective equipment is required as necessary.

Duties
  • Major duties include: installation, repair, preventive maintenance and inspection of the electrical distribution system and associated equipment
  • Performs duties as required of a journeyman electrician, including the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment
  • Performs work involving the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electrical wiring systems and associated fixtures, controls and equipment in industrial, institutional, office and residential buildings
  • Removes, replaces, tightens, splices, solders and insulates defective wiring, controls, equipment and fixtures
  • Locates defective parts/equipment through visual observation or use of test equipment
