Job Title: Gift Shop Cashier

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Hours: Part-time with a tentative end date in late fall/early winter, pending business operations and individual performance (flexible schedule of approximately 24 hours or more per week including weekends, holidays, and some evenings)

Pay Rate: $15.00/hour

Summary:

Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium is seeking guest-first, hospitality-focused Gift Shop Cashier with strong customer service skills who can confidently and professionally respond to a wide variety of situations to ensure guest satisfaction. Gift Shop Cashiers play a critical role in shaping first and lasting impressions by warmly welcoming visitors, answering questions, assisting the guest with product selections and consistently following register policies and procedures.

This position reports directly to the Retail Assistant Manager and works collaboratively to deliver safe, engaging, and memorable experiences for every guest.

Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

• Provide general information about prices, location of specific attractions, and safety rules.
• Accurately operate cash registers, credit card reader, and Point-of-Sale system during transactions.
• Work in a professional manner to provide exceptional guest service in high traffic locations.
• Clean indoors and outdoors with equipment such as brooms, mops, carpet cleaners, and vacuums to maintain a clean and professional appearance of Retail locations and surrounding areas.
• Report all safety related, animal related, mechanical issues, or other incidents to a supervisor.
• Represent our Zoo in a positive and professional manner and foster a welcoming and inclusive work environment.
• Promote teamwork within the working environment; assist coworkers when necessary.
• Consolidate cash bank in an orderly manner into the ticketing bag at day's end.
• Ensure merchandise displays are full and correctly merchandised.
• Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

• Must be 16 years of age or older.
• Must be available to work at least 24 hours each week during the summer season.
• Must be available to work weekends and holidays during the summer season.
• May have the opportunity to work some evening events.
• Ability to provide friendly, approachable, and courteous service to guests in all interactions.

Candidates might be (depending on position) required to pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.

Experience:

• Prior guest services experience is preferred but not required for this position.
• Prior cash handling experiences preferred but not required.
• Bilingual language skills are valued.

Working Environment and Physical Effort:

• Will sometimes work extended/odd hours including weekends, holidays, and some evening events.
• Work is done in both indoor and outdoor settings.
• Must be able to stand, sit, kneel, bend, twist, reach above head, and climb.
• Will lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds using safe and proper lifting methods.
• Will work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, rain, and snow.
