Emergency Veterinary Technician

VCA Midwest Veterinary Referral & Emergency Center is seeking Licensed Veterinary Technicians to join our growing Emergency and Critical Care team.

Full-time opportunity. With this large expansion to our ER we have openings in Day, Swing, and Overnight.

• We offer 4 x10s or 3x 12 hour shifts.

$24 - $30/hr and the starting range for technicians is determined by license, skill set, and years of experience in the field.

In this role, you will work alongside our Criticalists, ER Doctors, Specialists, and a supportive team of technicians to provide the best possible care for critically ill and injured pets. You will play a crucial part in providing high-quality emergency care to animals in need.

• Triage: Perform an initial assessment to evaluate the patient's condition quickly. This includes checking vital signs, assessing for obvious injuries or distress, and gathering information from the pet owner about the situation.
• Venipuncture and IVC Placement: Proficiently perform venipuncture and intravenous catheter placement.
• Medication Administration: Safely and accurately administer fluids, medications, and other treatments as prescribed by veterinarians.

  Work in conjunction with all technical staff across the hospital to ensure hospitalized patients receive optimal care. Maintain open communication with the healthcare team.
• Intensive Care Unit (ICU): Vigilantly monitor hospitalized patients, recognizing subtle changes in their clinical status and promptly reporting any concerns to the veterinary team. Assist in Departmental Rounds.

  Provide clear and concise discharge instructions to clients, ensuring they understand the care their furry family member requires after leaving the hospital.
• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records, including patient history, treatment details, and client communication. Assist with the completion of cost estimates.
• Anesthesia and Sedation Monitoring: Prepare patients for procedures and monitor anesthesia to ensure patient safety.
• Diagnostic Imaging: Operate diagnostic imaging equipment and assist in capturing radiographs and other diagnostic images.
• Laboratory Procedures: Run diagnostics (CBC, Chem Panel, NOVA, iSTAT, UA), correlate results with the clinical presentation of the patient and notify Veterinarian of results.
• Blood Transfusion Therapy: Including collection, administration, and transfusion reactions.
• Administering Oxygen: Flow-by Oxygen, Nasal Oxygen Cannula, or Oxygen Cage.
