We're looking for Registered Nurses (RN) for an immediate travel opening in Omaha, NE for our Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU).
The right RN should have at least 1 year of experience in a PCICU setting. Read below for more details.
As a PCICU Nurse, you will provide critical care to pediatric patients with congenital or acquired heart conditions, working closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide high-level care, monitor cardiovascular status, and support families through difficult times.
Responsibilities- Patient Care:
Provide direct care to pediatric patients with cardiovascular conditions, including those recovering from heart surgery, congenital heart defects, or severe arrhythmias. - Monitoring & Assessment:
Continuously monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, oxygenation, and other critical parameters. Assess patients for changes in condition and respond appropriately. - Medication Administration:
Administer medications (including IV drips, blood products, and sedatives) according to protocol, monitor for side effects, and adjust dosages as needed. - Ventilator Management:
Assist with ventilator management, including non-invasive and invasive respiratory support, and ensure proper airway management. - Cardiac Interventions:
Assist with procedures like intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), external pacemakers, or ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) as directed by the cardiology team. - Family Communication:
Provide clear, compassionate communication with patients' families, updating them on their child's condition, care plan, and prognosis. Offer emotional support and education to family members. - Emergency Response:
Respond swiftly to cardiac and respiratory emergencies, including code situations and rapid interventions in acute cardiovascular distress. - Collaboration:
Work alongside pediatric cardiologists, surgeons, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals in a collaborative environment to provide comprehensive care. - Documentation:
Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, changes in condition, and family interactions in the electronic health record (EHR). - Patient
Education:
Educate families and caregivers on post-operative care, recovery expectations, and signs of complications that may require attention.
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience in a PCICU or similar critical care setting.
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS.
- Additional certifications may be required before beginning an assignment.
- Must be eligible for state licensure.
- Must be able to stand or walk for long periods and bend, stoop, and lift with proper body mechanics.
- Exceptional critical thinking skills, strong communication abilities, and the ability to provide compassionate care under pressure.
