Job Details
• Acute care hospital setting on a 55-bed Med/Surg Orthopedic Trauma unit (4th Floor North & South),
• Level 1 Trauma Center,
• Patient population includes joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbations, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and failure to thrive - serving a multicultural population including Spanish, Karen, and Burmese-speaking patients,
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6; CNAs/PCTs available at a 1:10-20 ratio,
• RNs are required to titrate Heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine drips; PCA pumps also in use,
• Telemetry techs interpret strips; RNs are expected to have general tele awareness,
• Charting via Epic (experience required),
• 12-hour night shifts ); day shifts also referenced ),
• Travelers are assigned to scheduled shifts; limited block scheduling may be approved,
• Typically every other weekend required, with potential for additional weekend coverage based on department needs,
• Floating required to other Med/Surg areas or units housing Med/Surg patients,
• Charge nurse present on each shift and takes an assignment,
• 13-week contract,
Job Requirements
• Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license - must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted,
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required,
• Med/Surg experience required; orthopedic or trauma experience a plus,
• BLS certification (AHA) required; ACLS preferred - pending certifications not accepted,
• Epic EMR experience required,
• Ability to titrate drips including Heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine,
• Driver's license required for consideration (used to verify residence outside the 50-mile radius),
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire,
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility,
Additional Information
• Unit has a strong emphasis on hourly rounding, patient responsiveness, and managing a high volume of admissions and discharges daily,
• Mechanical lifts available in every other room,
• RNs must wear navy blue scrubs,
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas,
• Orientation consists of 2 days of unit/department-specific training, plus a pass/fail open-book exam on the final day of orientation - a score of 90% or higher is required to continue the assignment,
• 2-3 holidays required between Thanksgiving and New Year's,
• RTO must be declared upfront; no more than 7 days per 13-week contract, and no additional RTO will be approved after submission,
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year - candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
