Job Details
• Acute care hospital setting at a Level 1 Trauma center,
• 25-bed Med/Surg Tele unit on the 4th Floor North, specializing in neuro patients,
• Patient population includes strokes, stable neurological deficits, post-neurosurgery, joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbations, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and failure to thrive,
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6; CNAs/patient care techs available at a 1:10-20 ratio,
• Telemetry techs interpret strips; RNs are expected to have general tele awareness,
• RNs are required to titrate Heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine drips; PCA pumps also used,
• Charting performed in Epic (experience required),
• 12-hour night shifts ),
• Every other weekend required,
• 2-3 holidays required between Thanksgiving and New Year's,
• Floating required to other Med/Surg areas or units holding Med/Surg patients,
• Limited block scheduling available; travelers are otherwise scheduled by the unit,
Job Requirements
• Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license - must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted,
• Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted,
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required,
• Med/Surg Tele experience required; neuro experience strongly preferred,
• Epic EMR experience required,
• A driver's license is required for consideration and is used to verify the candidate resides more than 50 miles from the facility,
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire,
• No active license or background issues permitted,
Additional Information
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; a driver's license will be used to verify permanent address,
• Candidates may not currently be employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered,
• RNs must pass an open-book skills exam with a score of 90% or higher during orientation - failure to pass results in contract termination,
• Orientation consists of 2 days of unit-specific orientation plus a 12-hour general orientation,
• Navy blue scrubs required; artificial nails are strictly prohibited in all patient care areas,
• Unit is high-volume with frequent admissions and discharges; strong time management and organizational skills are essential for success,
• Mechanical lifts available in every other patient room,
• Strong emphasis on hourly rounding and patient responsiveness,
• Unit serves a culturally diverse patient population, including Spanish-, Karen-, and Burmese-speaking patients,
• Charge nurses are present on each shift and carry their own patient assignment,
• Travel experience is preferred but strong candidates without travel experience will be considered
