Job Details
• Acute care hospital setting at a Level I Trauma Center,
• Med/Surg Neuro unit (4th Floor North) with telemetry monitoring capabilities,
• 25-bed unit with a 1:5-6 nurse-to-patient ratio,
• Patient population includes strokes, stable neurological deficits, post-neurosurgery, joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbations, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and failure to thrive,
• RNs required to titrate Heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine drips; PCA pumps also in use,
• Telemetry techs interpret strips; RNs are expected to have general tele awareness,
• Charge nurse is present on each shift and takes an assignment,
• Nurse aides/patient care techs available at a 1:10-20 ratio,
• Charting via Epic (experience required),
• 12-hour night shifts ); day shift also available ),
• Every other weekend required,
• 2-3 holidays required between Thanksgiving and New Year's,
• Floating required to other Med/Surg areas or units holding Med/Surg patients,
• Limited block scheduling available; travelers are otherwise scheduled by the unit,
Job Requirements
• Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses not accepted,
• Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted,
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required,
• Med/Surg and/or telemetry nursing experience required,
• Epic EMR experience required,
• A valid driver's license is required for consideration,
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire,
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address),
• Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility,
Additional Information
• RNs serve a culturally diverse patient population including Spanish, Karen, and Burmese-speaking patients,
• Mechanical lifts available in every other room,
• Strong emphasis on hourly rounding and responsiveness; unit typically sees multiple admissions and discharges per day,
• Navy blue scrubs required for RNs; artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas,
• 2-day unit-specific orientation provided; includes a pass/fail open-book skills exam requiring a score of 90% or higher - failure results in contract termination,
• Candidates with prior travel experience preferred, but strong candidates without travel experience will be considered,
• Candidates who were previously employed PRN through an outside staffing firm at a Common Spirit/CHI/Dignity facility may still be considered
