CVICU – Unit Overview & Requirements Radius Rule 50-mile radius enforced Candidates cannot be FT/PT/PRN with any Common Spirit facility (including CHI/Dignity) Driver’s license required at submission (used to verify distance) Important Policies Artificial nails prohibited in all patient-care areas (refusal = contract termination) RN Exam:
Pass/Fail exam on Friday of orientation Open-book, based on learned skills 90% required to pass or contract terminated RTO:
Must be submitted upfront (≤7 days per 13-week contract). No additional RTO approved after submission. Department Unit: CVICU Beds: 18 Ratios: 1:1 Scrubs:
Navy Blue Orientation: 2 unit-specific shifts Certifications & Experience
Required:
BLS, ACLS
Experience:
Minimum 1 year CVICU/cardiac patient population Patient Population Open heart, complex thoracic & vascular patients Support devices:
Impella, IABP, CRRT, ECMO Cardiac surgeries, lytic cases, carotids/TCARs, fem-pop, EVARs/Endo AAAs Patients from cath lab, structural heart, EP lab, ER, and clinic Clinical Responsibilities Titrate drips:
Yes Common drips:
Vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, antiarrhythmics Vent/RT equipment: RNs manage and troubleshoot Telemetry:
No monitor techs; RNs must read and interpret strips Staffing & Support Charge nurse on every shift (takes assignment) No CNAs Hospitalist & Intensivist in-house 24/7 Scheduling
