American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring a minimum of 1 year of CVICU experience and active NE or Compact RN licensure.
Details- 18-bed CVICU within an acute care, Level I Trauma Center
- Patient population includes open heart, complex thoracic, and vascular surgery patients, as well as complex cases from the cath lab, structural heart program, EP lab, ER, and clinic
- Patients supported by Impella, IABP, CRRT, and ECMO; common and advanced cardiac surgeries including lytic cases, carotids, TCAVRs, Fempop, EVARs/Endo AAAs
- 1:1 nurse-to-patient ratio
- RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
- RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own cardiac monitor strips (no telemetry/monitor techs on unit)
- RNs work with all RT equipment including vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow
- Charting is done in Epic
- 12-hour shifts; day (0630–1830) and night (1830–0630) shifts available
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday coverage required every other holiday or as needed based on unit needs
- Floating required to all inpatient units, excluding Maternity/NICU
- No on-call or standby requirement
- No CNAs on the unit; charge nurse is present each shift and takes an assignment
- Intensivist and hospitalist are in-house 24/7
- Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required; at least 1 year must be with this specific CVICU patient population
- Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS; pending certifications are not accepted
- Experience with titratable drips (vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, antiarrhythmics) required
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac monitor strips independently required
- Experience with ECMO, IABP, CRRT, and Impella preferred given patient population
- Epic EMR experience beneficial
- Candidate must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address)
- Candidates may not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any Common Spirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
- Unit-specific orientation consists of 2 shifts
- RNs must pass an open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%; failure to pass results in contract termination
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
- Candidates who were previously employed directly (full time, part time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit-affiliated facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates who worked PRN through an outside staffing firm will be considered
- RTO requests must be submitted upfront and are limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
