American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Trauma ICU position at a Level 1 trauma center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and active ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.
Details- 18-bed Trauma ICU within an acute care hospital setting that serves as the only Level 1 trauma center in the system
- Patient population includes adults and pediatric patients 15 years and older presenting with trauma injuries, sepsis, stroke, ARDS, MODS, COPD, and cardiac arrest, with a high volume of transfers and ED admits
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1–2 in the ICU and 1:4 in the PCU
- RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
- Equipment in use includes CVPs, IABP, Impella, A-lines, Swans, EV-1000, ICP monitoring, Zoll-Thermoguard for hypothermia protocol, and Bell Mont rapid transfuser — real‑time training available for most
- Respiratory support ranges from nasal cannula to mechanical ventilation; RNs are expected to troubleshoot RT equipment
- Draeger heart monitoring with centralized telemetry is used; no monitor techs on unit — RNs must be able to independently read and interpret cardiac rhythms
- Epic is the EMR used on this unit
- 12‑hour day shifts, 0630–1830
- Self‑scheduling is available but managed by the unit manager based on unit needs
- 4 weekend shifts required per 6‑week scheduling period
- Floating required to all inpatient units, excluding Maternity/NICU
- Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
- Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS; pending certifications are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ICU nursing experience required
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; a driver's license is required to verify permanent address
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Driver's license required for consideration
- No license or background hits will be accepted
- First‑time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Fast‑paced, critically ill patient environment requiring strong critical thinking skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to work as part of a team
- A charge nurse is present on each shift and carries an assignment
- Nurse aides/patient care techs are available on the unit at a 1:18 ratio
- Unit‑specific orientation consists of 2 shifts
- A pass/fail open‑book exam is administered during orientation covering skills learned; a minimum score of 90% is required to pass — failure to pass will result in contract termination
- Manager interview is required for this position
- Navy blue scrubs are required
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove nails will result to contract termination
- RTO must be declared upfront; no more than 7 days per 13‑week contract will be approved, and additional RTO requests will not be approved after the process begins
- Candidates may not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN at any facility associated with Common Spirit, including CHI and/or Dignity; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
