Job Details
• Acute care setting in a Trauma ICU department at a Level 1 trauma center,
• 18-bed ICU unit serving adult and pediatric patients (ages 15+) with complex trauma, sepsis, stroke, ARDS, MODS, COPD, and cardiac arrest,
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1-2 in ICU and 1:4 in PCU,
• RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics,
• Specialized equipment includes CVPs, IABP, Impella, A-lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, EV-1000, ICP monitoring, Zoll-Thermoguard for hypothermia protocol, and Bell Mont rapid transfuser,
• EMR:
Epic (used in position),
• 12-hour night shifts ),
• Self-scheduling available, managed by the unit manager based on unit needs,
• 4 weekend shifts required per 6-week scheduling period,
• Floating required to inpatient units, excluding Maternity/NICU,
• No telemetry/monitor techs on unit; RNs must independently read and interpret cardiac rhythms using Draeger heart monitoring with centralized telemetry,
• Charge nurse present on each shift; charge nurse carries an assignment,
• Nurse aides/patient care techs available at a 1:18 ratio,
Job Requirements
• Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license, currently in hand - pending licenses not accepted,
• Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS - pending certifications not accepted,
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required,
• Ability to read and interpret cardiac rhythms independently,
• Driver's license required for consideration (used to verify permanent address and radius eligibility),
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire,
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (permanent address verified via driver's license),
• Candidates may not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN at any Common Spirit-affiliated facility (including CHI and/or Dignity),
Additional Information
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this position,
• A pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered on Friday during orientation; a score of 90% or higher is required to pass - failure to pass may result to contract termination,
• Unit-specific orientation consists of 2 shifts, with a 12-hour general orientation,
• Manager interview required for all candidates,
• Fast-paced unit with critically ill patients; successful candidates demonstrate critical thinking, a positive attitude, and strong teamwork,
• Scrub color:
Navy Blue,
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them will result in contract termination,
• RTO must be submitted upfront (7 days or fewer per 13-week contract); additional RTO requests will not be approved
