Med Surg Neuro RN – Travel Contract
Shift: 12-Hour Nights (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM)
Contract: 13 Weeks
We are seeking an experienced Med Surg Neuro Registered Nurse (RN) to join a busy inpatient unit providing care to a diverse patient population.
Unit Details- 25-bed Med Surg Neuro unit
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5–6
- Strong focus on teamwork, patient responsiveness, and hourly rounding
Med Surg / Tele patients including:
- Stroke and stable neurological deficits
- Post neurosurgery patients
- Joint replacements and fractures
- Colon resections
- COPD exacerbation
- Prostatectomy
- Cellulitis
- Sepsis
- GI bleeds
- Pneumonia
- Ortho trauma
- Failure to thrive
- Provide direct patient care in a Med Surg Neuro environment
- Manage and monitor patients on telemetry
- Administer and monitor drips such as Heparin, Lidocaine, and Ketamine
- Manage PCA pumps
- Work collaboratively with the care team to support high-quality patient care
- BLS
- NIHSS
- Charge nurse available each shift
- Patient care techs available (ratio approx. 1:10–20)
- Telemetry technicians interpret rhythms (RNs should have basic tele awareness)
- Mechanical lifts available in many rooms
- Shift: 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday requirement: 2–3 holidays between Thanksgiving and New Year
- Limited block scheduling available
- 2 days of unit orientation
- Open-book skills exam during orientation (must score 90% to pass)
- 50-mile radius rule applies
- Candidates cannot be employed with any Common Spirit / CHI / Dignity Health facility
- Driver’s license required at submission
- Artificial nails are not allowed for patient care staff
- No license or background hits
- Travel experience preferred, but strong candidates without travel experience will be considered
