Job Details
• Work in a 28-bed mixed PCU, Med/Surg, and Oncology adult unit within a Level 1 trauma acute care setting,
• Patient population includes oncology and trauma patients, with common diagnoses such as cancer and complex traumas,
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4 in PCU and 1:5 in Med/Surg during days, and 1:5-6 on nights,
• Typical drips include insulin, cardizem, and chemotherapy agents; required to titrate some drips,
• Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Lyko lifts in even rooms, ventilators, and various hemodynamic monitoring systems,
• EMR used is Epic;
Epic experience within the last 6 months preferred but not required,
• 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend required,
• Float to similar level Med/Surg or PCU units as needed,
• Nursing assistant and additional multidisciplinary support on the unit,
• Self-scheduling offered,
Job Requirements
• Active NE or compact RN license must be in hand prior to consideration,
• Minimum of 2 years of recent RN experience with at least 1 year in PCU or Oncology; charge nurse experience required for charge roles,
• Current certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS, NIHSS, ONS/ONCC (chemotherapy certification),
• Experience with oncology and PCU patients required, including administration of chemotherapy and titration of related drips,
• Ability to pass an open-book skills assessment during orientation with a minimum score of 90%,
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license required to validate address,
• Candidates must not be currently employed, or have been employed within the last year, in any capacity by Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facilities,
• Artificial nails are prohibited for all patient care staff,
• Two professional references required: one supervisor within the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor within the past 3 years,
Additional Information
• Responsible for hourly patient rounding and comprehensive care of adult oncology and trauma patients,
• Expected to maintain compliance with all hospital policies, including dress code (navy blue scrubs),
• Teamwork and adaptability are highly valued on this diverse, multidisciplinary unit,
• Unit offers 2-day orientation and on-the-job training for select specialized equipment,
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply,
• No vacation or RTO exceeding 7 days per 13-week contract will be approved,
• Holiday coverage may be required as scheduled,
