Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with an active NE or compact license, 2 years of ICU experience, and required certifications for 13-week night shifts.
Responsibilities- Work in a 16-bed adult ICU within an acute hospital setting
- Patient population includes a variety of ICU acuity patients, including ventilated patients, patients requiring BIS scoring, targeted temperature management (TTM), and occasionally intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP)
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:2, occasionally 1:3
- RNs are required to titrate drips such as vasopressors, inotropes, sedatives, heparin, octreotide, and insulin
- No nurse aides or patient care techs on the unit
- eICU support is available in 14 out of 16 rooms
- 12-hour night shifts from 7 pm to 7 am; every other weekend required
- Holiday coverage rotates with permanent staff
- Floating may be required to PCU or Med Surg
- EMR used is Epic;
Epic experience preferred but not required - Dress code is navy blue scrubs
- Responsibilities include care of high-acuity ICU patients and titration of complex drips
- Assigned classroom orientation plus two 12-hour shifts on the unit for department-specific onboarding
- Charge nurse present on every shift
- Must be willing to work collaboratively as part of a team
- eICU support extends 24/7 coverage in the majority of ICU rooms
- Requests for time off must be submitted up front, with a maximum of 7 days off per 13-week contract; additional RTO not approved after acceptance
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- Returning candidates may not have been employed by Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity facilities within the last year
- Holiday assignments will rotate with regular staff
- Active NE or compact RN license in hand at time of application (pending licenses not accepted)
- Minimum 2 years of recent ICU RN experience required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Driver's license required to confirm residence outside 50-mile radius
- Candidates may not currently work full time, part time, or PRN at any Common Spirit, including CHI or Dignity facilities
- Must pass an open-book, skills-based exam during orientation with at least a 90% score
- References must include one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, with employment dates and rehire eligibility
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
