Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical ICU position requiring a NE or compact RN license and current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.
Responsibilities- Work in a 34-bed Medical Surgical ICU in an acute care hospital
- Patient population includes adults and pediatric patients over 15 years old with complex medical and surgical diagnoses
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: ICU 1:1-2, PCU 1:4-5, MS 1:5-6
- Common titratable drips include vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
- ICU utilizes equipment such as Impella, balloon pumps, CRRT, CVPs, Alines, Swans, EV-1000, ICP monitoring, Zoll Thermoguard, and Bell Mont rapid transfuser
- Draeger heart monitoring system with centralized telemetry monitoring is used; RNs must read and interpret strips
- 12-hour day shifts )
- Every other weekend and holiday coverage required (2 out of 3 major holidays or as needed)
- Floating to all inpatient units except Maternity and NICU is required
- Epic EMR system is used
- Provide critical care nursing for diverse, complex adult and some adolescent patients in a fast-paced, high-acuity unit
- RN responsibilities include titrating IV medications, performing real-time training on specialized equipment, and collaborating closely with attendings and student providers
- Positive attitude, willingness to assist others, and strong critical thinking skills are valued in this unit
- RNs will complete a pass/fail open book exam during orientation and must achieve at least 90% to continue in the role
- Scrub color required is navy blue
- Orientation includes two unit-specific shifts and a 12-hour hospital orientation
- RTO must be requested up front (7 or fewer days permitted per 13-week contract); additional RTO will not be approved
- First-time travelers will be considered
- Active NE or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum of 2 years of RN experience
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Ability to titrate critical care drips and interpret telemetry strips is essential
- Driver’s license required to confirm residence outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
- Candidates must not be current or recent (within 1 year) employees of any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity facility
- Artificial nails are prohibited for all staff in patient care areas
- Two professional references required: one from a supervisor within the last 12 months and one from a peer or supervisor within the last 3 years
