Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical ICU position with night shifts, Level 1 trauma experience, and a NE or compact license requirement.
Responsibilities- Work in a 34-bed Medical Surgical ICU within an acute care hospital setting
- Patient population includes adults and pediatrics over 15, with cases including neuro surgery, respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke, cardiogenic shock, renal failure, general surgery, psychiatric/overdose, GI bleeds, and cancer-specific surgeries
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:1-2 for ICU, 1:4-5 for PCU, and 1:5-6 for Med Surg
- RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
- Use of advanced equipment including CRRT, Impella, balloon pump, CVPs, A-lines, Swans, EV-1000, ICP monitoring, Zoll Thermoguard, and Bell Mont rapid transfuser; real-time training provided as needed
- Must be able to read and interpret cardiac rhythms on Draeger heart monitoring with centralized telemetry, as no monitor techs are present
- Shift is 12-hour nights; every other weekend required
- Expected to float to all inpatient units except Maternity/NICU
- Uses Epic EMR; prior Epic experience preferred
- Dress code requires navy blue scrubs
- RNs provide comprehensive ICU care, titrate critical drips, manage advanced life support equipment, and interpret cardiac rhythms
- Unit is fast-paced, with frequent volume fluctuations as the primary tertiary hospital for the system
- Strong collaboration among RNs, attendings, fellows, and residents, fostering a team environment
- Charge nurse is present each shift and participates in rapid response and codes
- Nurse aides/patient care technicians support the unit at a 1:18 ratio
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
- Must work at least two out of three major holidays or as determined by unit needs
- Requested time off (RTO) must be submitted up front and limited to seven days or fewer per 13-week contract; additional RTO not accepted
- First-time travelers are eligible to apply
- Active NE or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum of 2 years ICU experience required
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS, all active at time of consideration
- Must provide two professional references: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both verifying dates of employment and rehire eligibility
- Valid driver’s license required to confirm residence outside a 50-mile radius
- Candidates must not currently work full-time, part-time, or PRN at any Common Spirit facility, including CHI or Dignity, and must not have been employed by these within the past year
- Must pass a skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%
