Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery RN with 2 years of L&D experience, NE or compact RN license, and certifications in BLS, NRP, and Fetal Monitoring.

Responsibilities
  • Position is in a Level 1 Trauma acute care hospital on the Labor & Delivery unit
  • Sixteen labor rooms, nine antepartum rooms, three OR suites for C-sections, and seven-bed triage unit with up to 400 births per month
  • Patient population includes high-risk OB and routine obstetric cases
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines: 1:1-2 for labor, 1:2-3 for antepartum
  • 12-hour day shifts, with every third weekend required and potential for every other weekend depending on unit needs
  • Holiday coverage required: one major and one minor holiday per contract
  • Expected to float to Postpartum and, on occasion, elsewhere in the hospital as a sitter
  • Unit uses EPIC for charting and Obix for electronic fetal monitoring
  • Surgical scrubs provided
  • Primary responsibilities include managing labor, delivery, circulating in the OR, performing newborn assessments, and caring for both mother and infant
  • May occasionally float to Postpartum to provide infant and maternal care
  • Interdisciplinary team includes residents, supervising MD, CRNAs available 24/7, and two OB techs per shift
  • Orientation consists of 2-3 unit-specific shifts
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
  • Seven or fewer days of requested time off allowed per 13-week contract and must be submitted upfront; no additional time off will be approved
  • Not open to candidates living within 50 miles of the facility
Requirements
  • Active NE or compact RN license required at time of consideration
  • Minimum of 2 years recent Labor & Delivery RN experience
  • Current BLS, NRP, and Intro to Fetal Monitoring certifications required
  • Must be able to circulate in the OR for C-sections
  • Competency in normal newborn assessments and routine baby care required
  • Experience titrating Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, and pain medications required
  • Driver’s license required to verify residency outside a 50 mile radius
  • Candidates may not have been employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any facility associated with Common Spirit within the past year
  • Two recent references: one from a supervisor within the last 12 months and one from a peer or supervisor from the last 3 years
