Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Trauma ICU position requiring a NE or compact RN license and advanced critical care certifications.
Responsibilities
• Work in a Level 1 Trauma ICU within an acute care hospital
• Unit has 18 beds with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1-2 in ICU and 1:4 in PCU
• Patient population includes adults and pediatric patients older than 15 with trauma, sepsis, stroke, ARDS, MODS, COPD, and cardiac arrest
• Common procedures and equipment include CVPs, IABP, Impella, arterial lines, Swan-Ganz, EV-1000, ICP monitoring, Zoll-Thermoguard, Bell Mont rapid transfuser, and ventilators
• RNs are required to titrate drips such as vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
• RNs must be able to read and interpret telemetry using Draeger monitors with centralized monitoring
• Schedule consists of 12-hour night shifts with self-scheduling managed by the unit manager
• Weekend requirement is four weekend shifts per six-week schedule period
• Floating is required to all inpatient units except Maternity/NICU
• Primary responsibilities include caring for critically ill trauma patients and performing advanced critical care tasks and interventions
• Team support includes a charge nurse on each shift and nurse aides with a 1:18 ratio
• Two shifts of unit-specific orientation provided; includes a pass/fail open-book skills assessment with a required score of 90% or higher
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Up to seven days of requested time off will be considered if submitted upfront; no additional RTO accepted after submission
• No local candidates or those within a 50-mile radius will be considered
Requirements
• Active NE or compact RN license required at time of consideration; no pending licenses accepted
• Minimum of two years recent ICU experience required
• Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS (no pending certifications accepted)
• Driver's license required for verification of permanent address
• No previous full-time, part-time, or PRN employment with any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity facility
• No prior license or background issues
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
• Will not accept first time travelers
