Founded in 2020, the Midlands African Chamber is an exciting membership-based chamber of commerce that exists to enhance the robust African and African American business climate in Nebraska and across the Midwest. Join the Midlands African Chamber (MAC) as an Advocacy Intern and become a key part of our mission to empower African and African American communities.

This internship is an incredible opportunity for students looking to develop professional skills, build their resume, and work closely with influential community leaders. As an Advocacy Intern, you will work directly with MAC’s CEO and Board Vice President of Advocacy, helping to track legislation, conduct research, and support key advocacy initiatives.

Qualifications
  • College or high school student in good academic standing
  • Proficiency in Canva, Google Suite tools, and Microsoft Office tools
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, including Linked In, Facebook, Tik Tok, and Instagram
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with diverse audiences
  • Strong research skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and meet deadlines
  • Passion for issues affecting African American and African immigrant communities
  • Interest in inclusion, diversity, and social justice issues
Responsibilities
  • Track and monitor state and federal legislation impacting MAC’s advocacy platform
  • Conduct research on elected officials, bills, and relevant policies
  • Assist in planning and coordinating advocacy‑related events and meetings
  • Support the creation of issue papers, fact sheets, and talking points
  • Maintain and update records and data on Google Drive
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners and stakeholders
  • Research potential funding sources for advocacy initiatives
  • Help create and manage content for social media platforms (Linked In, Facebook, Tik Tok, Instagram)
  • Contribute to special projects and draft informational documents as needed
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned
