Job Title:
Beef Modernization Supervisor
Location:
Omaha, NE
Reporting to: FS/QA Superintendent
Essential Job Functions
- Drive food safety initiatives across the harvest floor.
- Ensure Beef Modernization functions operate efficiently while maintaining a safe workplace and meeting all food safety requirements on the harvest floor.
- Manage Beef Modernization personnel, ensuring ongoing professional development, training, and overall employee well‑being at all processing facilities.
- Demonstrate understanding of basic bovine anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
- Determine appropriate actions for the removal and disposal of unwholesome or unfit carcasses, parts, or viscera to ensure they cannot be used as human food.
- Exhibit strong understanding of carcass or part conditions, disease processes, or systemic involvement requiring USDA‑FSIS Public Health Veterinarian disposition.
- Oversee continuous training and correlations with Beef Modernization personnel, and periodically measure and assess comprehension and effectiveness of training.
- Provide guidance and risk management for local food safety and quality programs and systems, including but not limited to HACCP, Preventive Controls, USDA Process Verified Programs, and customer or third‑party audit‑driven requirements and policies.
- Maintain a strong understanding of plant HACCP, prerequisite quality programs, and all food safety/ Quality-related programs necessary to meet regulatory and customer requirements.
- Participate in tracking microbiological trends, evaluating sanitation program performance, and communicating results to plant team members and corporate quality assurance.
- Support Continuous Improvement through standardized work, science‑based problem solving, and the use of real‑time tools to predict quality attributes.
- Prepare, implement, and monitor standard operating procedures for production areas involving Beef Modernization personnel within the plant.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience Required
- Minimum 1–2 years of meat or food industry experience.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred, but not required.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience.
Skills/Abilities Required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with proven problem‑solving and leadership abilities.
- Knowledge, background, and expertise in meat processing operations.
- Understanding of GMPs, Food Safety, HACCP, specification adherence for incoming raw materials, trimming, chilling, styling and packaging specifications, final box/package configuration, and shelf life.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships and collaborate with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to multitask effectively.
- Ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
- Understanding of SSOPs and record review requirements.
- Willingness to travel at least 25% of the time.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Spanish/English bilingual preferred but not required.
