Job Purpose

Responsible for the development, management, and training of food safety and quality practices. Analyzes and documents sanitation practices and procedures; defines, balances, and supports the Quality Assurance Technician roles. Proactively addresses food safety issues, actively participates in the environmental monitoring team, solves problems using documented structured methods, and trains current and new hires in standard sanitation procedures. Supports broader departmental and company objectives in safety, food safety, cost, and customer satisfaction.

Must be a subject matter expert, effective team leader, and motivator.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Adheres to safety policies, GLPs, GMPs, and SOPs, taking immediate action to address, communicate, and prevent food safety and quality issues with a sense of urgency.
  • Communicates effectively, efficiently, and in a timely manner with plant leadership and internal departments, including quality, maintenance, operations, procurement, scheduling, and on‑ and off‑site warehouses.
  • Builds collaborative partnerships and develops positive, solution‑oriented relationships with management, operations, maintenance, and other support staff to achieve organizational and team results.
  • Directs teams and motivates personnel in achieving goals in alignment with company strategies; assists the Quality Manager in providing leadership, discipline, and a collaborative working culture across all levels.
  • Manages the environmental monitoring program, including pathogen and non‑pathogen sampling and testing of air, water, packaging, tools, equipment, and other environmental surfaces. Participates in the investigation process to determine root cause and implement corrective actions.
  • Manages all aspects of the sanitation process: end‑of‑week plant sanitation, midweek sanitation, master sanitation schedule, cleaning tasks, and CIP cleaning oversight. Reviews records and documentation in support of the SQF system to assure accuracy.
  • Participates in and contributes to incident investigations, structured problem solving, safety audits, GMP audits, and other solution‑oriented activities.
  • Evaluates problems, facilitates and leads problem‑solving activities, documents solution finding, and implements corrective actions, ensuring effectiveness and adherence to action plans.
  • Facilitates effective cross‑department communication to resolve sanitation issues.
  • Actively promotes continuous improvement and audit readiness.
  • Responsible for maintaining the SQF system.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Work Experience / Knowledge
  • 5 years minimum of equivalent experience in an FDA‑regulated food facility in a quality/food safety position.
  • HACCP, Microbiology, PCQI, and SQF certification strongly preferred.
  • SAP experience preferred.
  • Ability to learn and use laboratory equipment safely and accurately is required.
  • Manufacturing experience a plus.
Skills / Other Personal Attributes Required
  • Regular and prompt attendance during the scheduled working hours.
  • Must be able to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) required.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Schedule may require non‑standard working hours and days in support of continuous operations.
Education
  • Minimum

    Education Required:

    4‑year degree in a science‑related field or 5 years minimum of equivalent experience in an FDA‑regulated food facility in a quality/food safety position.
Working Conditions

Constantly standing, walking, head/neck movements, reaching outward and above the shoulder. Frequently bending at the waist. Occasionally sit, twist/turn, kneel, squat, climb/heights, drive/operate equipment and crawl. Frequently lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds, grip, type/keyboard and use repetitive hand motions. Constantly lift, carry, push and pull up to 10 pounds.
