Responsibilities
The primary duty of the Community Transportation Strategy Director is to grow HDR’s global practice that helps clients keep the communities they serve top of mind. This practice responds to client needs to provide community-focused solutions across transport market sectors. The Director partners with business leaders to coordinate activities tied to enterprise goals, expands existing services, identifies HDR staff resources and market opportunities, raises visibility of HDR’s advisory and technical services, engages clients to deepen market penetration, fosters geographic and sector expansion, and identifies key project opportunities.
ProgramLeadership
The Director leads the Community Transportation Strategy practice, providing strategies, tools, and analytics for organizational policies, project outcomes, community-informed decision-making, compliance, and community benefits and workforce development. Working with transportation leadership, the Director advances the program through internal and external initiatives across all sectors and regions, maintains a database of HDR resources and projects, monitors market trends, coordinates across business groups, and develops annual strategic plans to report trends, best practices, and market opportunities.
Projectand Program Support Responsibilities
The Director serves as a technical focal point, collaborating with other Directors, Regional Directors, Market Sector Directors, and Client Managers to deliver community-centered solutions, create alliances, and drive growth while maintaining high-quality deliverables. Duties include technical support, quality oversight, audit participation, best practice development, project leadership, and principal-level program/project management.
Marketing and Business DevelopmentThe Director supports all transportation sector Directors in developing community-focused initiatives, supports client relationships to capitalize on major pursuit opportunities, and aids in capture planning, pre-proposal discussions, proposal preparation, presentations, negotiations, and teaming considerations. The role connects project and pursuit needs with community-focused elements and HDR resources.
Technical Staff Development and AlignmentThe Director acts as the transportation subject matter expert on community-centered decision-making strategies, leads initiatives and best practices, and develops an HDR educational program across planning, outreach, design, environmental, and other services.
