Position: HIM Release of Information Specialist / Health Information Management

Schedule: Monday - Friday, working hours 7 a.m.

- 5 p.m., 40 hours

Brief Overview

The HIM Release of Information Analyst manages Release of Information (ROI) requests.

Essential Functions
  • Process release of information requests from patients/parents, insurance companies, other facilities, and various requesters.
  • Process ROI requests in a timely manner.
  • Comply with the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other compliance requirements.
  • Answer phones and respond promptly.
  • Provide customer service as a priority and uphold hospital behaviors.
  • Manage ROI requests in the electronic health record system and complete scanning and quality review (QR) tasks promptly.
  • Assist visitors and physicians.
  • Adhere to all facility policies and procedures for release of information.
  • Maintain high quality and customer service standards.
  • Assist with cross‑training of peers.
  • Regular attendance at work is essential.
  • Perform physical requirements as described in the Physical Requirements section.
Education Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent (Required).
  • Associate’s Degree in Health Information Management (Preferred).
Experience Qualifications
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience working with healthcare records or in a hospital HIM department (Preferred).
Skills & Abilities
  • Organized, self‑motivated, and able to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Knowledge of hospital medical records management standards and principles.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with attention to detail and ability to organize, interpret, and present data.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; may deal directly with the public frequently.
