Job Description JR Psychologist/Licensed - Omaha (Open)
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services’ (NDCS) Sexual Offense Services has an opening for a psychologist in our inpatient sexual offense treatment program in Omaha. NDCS Sexual Offense Services also has an opening for a psychologist to conduct mandatory evaluations related to the Sex Offender Commitment Act (1199 psychologist). The 1199 psychologist travels to various NDCS facilities as needed.
Responsibilities- Assist in the development, establishment, implementation and evaluation of psychological and other mental health services for various inmate populations as needed, with emphasis on persons convicted of sexual offenses.
- Provide clinical supervision to mental health staff, including those working with individuals convicted of sexual offenses.
- May assist the Chief Psychologists for Sexual Offense Services and the Director of Psychiatry in the supervision of other non-licensed psychologists, students and other mental health practitioners.
- Provide training to other mental health and correctional staff as needed.
- Provide and supervise psychotherapy and treatment services; provide psychological services to inmates including observation, crisis intervention and mental status evaluations.
- Provide crisis management/intervention services and participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings as required.
- Perform comprehensive psychological evaluations directed toward diagnosis, risks and needs, with subsequent appropriate course of treatment.
- Participate in involuntary medication hearings and screen/monitor individuals who may be considered for involuntary medication.
- Be involved in developing policies and procedures, program evaluation and research related to mental health services.
- Review and interpret psychological testing results; administer and interpret various risk assessments and provide treatment recommendations and/or develop treatment plans to address risk areas.
- Develop or supervise the development of behavioral plans for high risk or special needs inmates.
- Maintain and complete paperwork, reports and other documentation according to policy as needed; maintain current Nebraska licensure.
- Participate in the clinical review team guidance for assessment and treatment decision-making for persons incarcerated for sexual offenses; conduct risk assessments and treatment plans; participate in quarterly treatment reviews; write discharge summaries as applicable for inpatient program duties.
- Assist with assessment and treatment planning for sexual offense patients as needed for the 1199 psychologist role; may involve conducting 1199 evaluations prior to parole or discharge.
- Testifying at Mental Health Commitment Board Hearings will be required.
Minimum Qualifications
:
Must be licensed to practice psychology in the state of Nebraska.
Preferred Qualifications
:
Completed required APA-accredited clinical internship; management and supervisory experience with psychological and other mental health professionals; forensic experience; experience working with incarcerated individuals and with major mental illness populations; experience assessing inmates convicted of sexual offenses; experience testifying in Mental Health Board Hearings; experience working on multidisciplinary teams; bilingual English/Spanish desired and assessed.

License-eligible candidates may be considered if actively pursuing licensure to become fully licensed as a Clinical Psychologist within 2 years from date of hire. Proof of licensure and transcripts required upon acceptance of a job offer. Must submit to a security background check. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the pre-employment medical exam and a drug test. Once employed, all incumbents must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Department of Correctional Services pre-service training program.
Supervised training for psychologists with limited exposure to sexual offenses can be provided.
