Position Summary

The Behavioral Health Therapist 1 is a part of the primary care treatment team and is closely supervised by an assigned clinical supervisor to ensure proper guidance regarding both clinical knowledge and clinical record documentation. The BHT1 (Behavioral Health Therapist) will welcome, inspire and provide hope within a safe environment since “every door is the right door”. Under supervision, the BHT1 identifies and manages patients with behavioral health problems.

In addition, the Behavioral Health Therapist I will provide quality mental health interventions for diverse populations. The BHT I will develop specific behavioral change plans for patients under the close supervision of a clinical supervisor. In addition has the ability and flexibility to treat patients across the CDHC enterprise regardless of age, economic status, gender, gender choice, ethnicity and or race.

Responsibilities
  • Assist primary health care providers in recognizing and treating mental disorders and psychosocial problems.
  • Assess the clinical status of patients referred.
  • Complete clinical documentation according to policies and procedures (CDHC and DHHS 206 regulations).
  • Work with primary care team to treat and manage patients with chronic emotional and/or mental health problems.
  • Assist in the detection of “at‑risk” patients and the development of relapse plans to prevent further psychological or physical complications.
  • Attend and participate in required meetings and activities.
  • Serve as a trustworthy member of the Behavioral Health Team.
  • Abide by State and Federal guidelines as it pertains to code of ethics, code of conduct, billing submission and therapeutic relationships.
  • Work diligently and professionally with internal and external partners.
  • Work effectively and efficiently with the adolescent population, their families and other identified members.
  • Comfortable with use of Windows operating system (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook).
  • If provisional, employee should meet all requirements of the state of NE and agree to close supervision.
  • Actively work toward obtaining full LIMHP credential.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Education:

    Master’s Degree.
  • Experience:

    At least one year of experience working closely with youth and families in a close capacity.
  • Licensure:
    Licensed as a Provisional Mental Health Therapist in the State of Nebraska (PLMHP) required, fully licensed (LIMHP) preferred.
  • Expertise:
    Working toward knowledge of evidence‑based treatments for mental health conditions. Some comfort in working with primary care medical providers using a consultative style. Ability to learn and work through brief patient contacts, including via telephone and teleconferencing with supervision. Ability to learn to design and implement clinical pathways and protocols for treatment of selected mental and behavioral conditions with supervision if needed.

    Ability to work effectively as a team, interfacing with patients, primary care providers and administrative and support staff. Ability to effectively represent CDHC’s interests in the community and maintain effective working relationships among co‑workers, public, private, and professional groups. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

  • Work Hours:

    Combination of Traditional and Non‑Traditional Hours (Weekend and late evenings).
  • Travel:
    Locally, intrastate, and interstate, as necessary.
  • Exposure:
    The exposure characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. For example, while performing the essential functions of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. Additionally, the employee may be exposed to blood‑borne and other hazardous chemicals. Finally, the noise level in the work environment can be quite loud.

    In all cases personal protective equipment will be provided to the employee in combination with adequate ventilation and other engineering controls to minimize the risk of exposure or other hazardous occurrence.
