Peer Support Specialist – Assertive Community Treatment (Nebraska CCBHC)

Summary Description of WorkA Peer Support Specialist has lived experience with a serious and persistent mental illness and/or substance use and provides individualized services as part of the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team. The role includes counseling clients, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, assisting with community resources, fostering client self‑determination, and promoting a culture that respects each client’s perspective.
CompensationWage based on total years of relevant experience.
Work Schedule37.5 hours per week (Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.).
Minimum Qualifications- Peer Recovery Specialist Certification from the Nebraska Board of Certification (or ability to obtain).
- Familiarity with the Georgia Model of Peer Support and whole‑health wellness.
- Two years of paid or volunteer experience working with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness (preferred).
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
- Use lived experience to support clients in their recovery journey.
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, respecting differing opinions.
- Consult with community agencies, including peer‑run programs, and facilitate client participation in peer self‑help groups and activities.
- Document client progress in accordance with agency record‑keeping procedures.
- Contribute to the team’s assessment of clients’ mental illness symptoms and treatment response.
- Provide direct services using recovery‑based techniques in individual, group, and family settings to teach symptom‑management.
- Assist clients with personal hygiene, grooming, nutrition education, meal planning, grocery shopping, food preparation, safe and affordable housing, daily household maintenance, and transportation services.
- Provide transportation assistance to help clients access resources.
- Help clients establish primary care, dental, and eye care providers.
- Assist clients in planning and engaging in socialization and leisure activities and lead individual and group recreational activities.
- Maintain a courteous, caring attitude toward clients, volunteers, and visitors.
- Be dependable and punctual regarding scheduling and attendance.
- Follow all relevant program and agency procedures, policies, and requirements.
- Develop personal and program-related skills through participation in internal and external training opportunities.
- Perform other program-related duties as assigned.
