Job SummarySupport departmental efficiencies through scheduling, registration, pre‑admission, admission, reception, and discharge functions. Ensure accurate patient demographic data and employ compliant liability‑collection techniques before, during, and after service dates.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Greet patients per Conifer Standards of Care, deliver world‑class customer service, complete full registration at the date of service, and adhere to financial & cash control policies.
- Secure and explain hospital & patient legal forms (Advance Directives, Conditions of Service, Consent for Treatment, Medicare Important Message, EMTALA, etc.), scan PHI, file patient information packets, and assist in diagnostic scheduling.
- Educate patients on their financial liabilities, perform cash reconciliation and secured payment entry per policy.
- Verify medical necessity, insurance, benefits, coverage & eligibility, complete registration‑financial clearance workflows, obtain authorizations, and coordinate inpatient visit notifications to payors. Assist with post‑discharge care coordination as needed.
- Minimum 35 wpm typing speed.
- Operating system, PC, printer, and scheduling software proficiency.
- Knowledge of hospital functions and inter‑departmental relationships.
- Customer‑service experience and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Understanding of third‑party payor requirements and compliance standards is preferred.
- Ability to perform essential duties in at least two patient access service areas including the Emergency Department.
- Professional negotiation skills for collecting patient/guarantor dues.
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external clients.
- Interpret physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance cards while maintaining Conifer Standards of Care.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 0–1 year in a customer‑service role.
- 0–1 year administrative experience in a medical facility, health‑insurance, or a related area preferred.
- Some college coursework preferred.
- Sit at a computer terminal for extended periods.
- Resolve physician office and patient issues; manage high patient volumes and uncooperative patients.
- Occasionally lift/carry items up to 25 lbs.
- Frequent prolonged standing, sitting, and walking.
- Occasionally push a wheelchair to assist patients with mobility problems.
- Hospital administration setting.
- Potential exposure to life‑threatening patient conditions in patient‑care locations.
