Summary Description Of Work
A person in recovery from a serious mental illness will hold this position. This fully integrated employee provides highly individualized services at the peer drop‑in program and in the community. The focus of their work is to promote client self‑determination and decision‑making. Peer specialists also provide essential expertise and consultation to other professionals to promote a culture that recognizes and respects each client’s point of view and preferences, integrating them into treatment, rehabilitation, and community self‑help activities.
Compensation$16.50 – $23.07 per hour (wage based on total years of relevant experience)
Work Schedule37.5 hours per week (Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Friday 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.)
Minimum Qualifications- Certified Peer Recovery Support (PRS)
- Wellness Recovery Action Planning training (WRAP) preferred
- Two years paid or volunteer experience working with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness
- Valid driver’s license / acceptable driving record
- Speak to the experiences of others with serious persistent mental illness and provide support based on similar experiences.
- Engage clients in their own recovery journey.
- Provide direct services to clients on an individual and group basis in the office and in community settings, teaching symptom‑management techniques and promoting personal growth, whole health wellness, and coping with internal and external stresses.
- Meet direct service standards and complete billing information in a timely manner.
- Provide care coordination – serve as a resource for community supports.
- Develop and maintain a welcoming, trauma‑informed atmosphere.
- Assist in the Peer Center during open hours.
- Organize and lead individual and group social and recreational activities to help clients structure their time, increase social experiences, and practice social skills.
- Participate actively in case consultations and other program discussions as an active voice for program members.
- Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
- Use computer easily to document client progress and maintain a permanent record of client activity.
- Assist in independent living skill development.
- Support clients in accessing primary care, dental, and other medical professionals and encourage whole health wellness.
- Encourage clients to plan and carry out leisure activities on evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Display a courteous and caring attitude at all times to clientele, volunteers, and visitors.
- Cooperate and collaborate with program area staff, volunteers, and other agency personnel.
- Be dependable and punctual regarding scheduling and attendance.
- Abide by all specific program and agency procedures, policies, and requirements.
- Develop personal and program‑related skills through participation in internal and external training opportunities.
- Create, maintain, and share an appropriate dynamic self‑care plan.
- Connect the agency with the larger community to contribute to fundraising and friend‑raising efforts.
- Perform other program‑related duties as assigned.
