*** JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
** The Dispatcher receives incoming calls requesting Police, Fire, and EMS assistance through a variety of communication equipment and dispatches the appropriate emergency unit. The position utilizes computer aided dispatch software to initiate and track calls for service and record officer activity. The Dispatcher coordinates communications during police field activity and relays information to appropriate department officials or other agencies.
** ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
** 1.
Responds accordingly to requests for Police, Fire and other emergency services through a variety of communication equipment and dispatches the appropriate emergency unit.
2.
Responds accordingly to fire and intrusion alarms, while maintaining complete records. 3.
Refers non-emergency calls to appropriate MCC Departments or other agencies in accordance with established procedures. 4.
Operates surveillance equipment, monitoring both live and recorded video surveillance footage and reporting incidents or suspicious behavior to MCC Police personnel when necessary. 5.
Provides support for requests of information from Fire, Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice and other authorized persons. 6.
Activates the MCC Emergency Notification System, including Alertus brand beacons and outdoor sirens, as well as Blackboard text messaging. 7.
Operates Access Control to remotely lock, unlock and grant access for authorized personnel for MCC locations.
8.
Monitors card access and activity, panic alarms and deactivates lost or stolen access cards. 9.
Monitors weather conditions for severe weather notification and conveys information pursuant to established procedure. 10.
Attends work activities or programs as scheduled or assigned.

* KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
** 1.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of radio communications as well as the proper procedures used in emergency service dispatching for the College’s 4-county area. 2.
Knowledge of MCC locations, including street locations within the 4-county area. 3.
Proficient computer skills with the ability to learn new software specific to the department and across the College. 4.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or College-supported related software. 5.
Proficient data entry skills when handling dispatch communications.
6.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills including active listening, positive and professional demeanor under stressful conditions even when the caller may not be calm or professional.
7.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 8.
Ability to exercise sound, independent judgment when organizing and prioritizing responses to emergency calls. 9.
Ability to maintain complete records. 10.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, faculty and students across the College and outside constituents, to include the public.
11.
Ability to maintain appropriate security and confidentiality of Criminal Justice Information (CJI) created or encountered in the performance of assigned duties. 12.
Ability to stay abreast of departmental policies, procedures, protocols, and government regulations. 13.
Ability to learn disclosure of public records laws. 14.
Ability to sit for long period of times in an office environment; while having the ability to lift, bend, stoop, squat, push and pull as needed.
15.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 16.
Ability to effectively work and interact with various cultures and ethnicities.
1.
High School diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
2.
One year of related work experience. 3.
Varied work schedule of days, nights, and weekends working up to 24 hours per week. 4.
NCIC Computer System certification within 3 months of hire. 5.
CJIS Security Awareness Training within 3 months of hire. 6.
Equivalent combination of education and/or work experience considered. 7.
Valid driver’s license and insurability to drive college vehicles is required. 8.
Must pass a background check.
