Job Description

This is a multi-level posting. Candidates may be considered for any of the levels posted, depending on their level of experience and depth of expertise.

The Project Director/Manager provides technical work and directs others in technical work in the planning, designing, procurement and construction of electrical additions, changes, or maintenance to Northern Natural Gas Company's 16,000-mile natural gas pipeline system. Responsibilities include project management for all phases of electrical projects, overseeing and guiding the engineering and construction staff in project management and design and problem resolution of complex engineering problems.

The project director/manager may participate in the direction of work for all levels of project managers, engineers, designers, construction coordinators, right-of-way agents, material buyers, environmental specialists, and contractors and craft personnel. The project director/manager may also provide assistance to managers and vice presidents on very high-level projects.

Responsibilities
  • Provide highly skilled electrical engineering services for the planning, design and construction of project additions or maintenance to Northern Natural Gas Company's natural gas pipeline system.
  • Provide technical project management for all phases of a project including scheduling, design, estimates, engineering specifications, drawings, materials procurement, construction contracts, cost tracking and project cost projections.
  • Develop strategic and technical plans for control, management and improvement of engineering and project management capabilities.
  • Conduct advanced engineering studies and investigations and prepare oral and written reports.
  • Assure that developed projects and designs comply with applicable industry standards and codes and Company Engineering Standards.
  • Keep informed of industry issues and technical trends and recommend and implement changes to benefit Northern's business.

Perform Any Additional Responsibilities As Requested Or Assigned.

External - Material and equipment suppliers; engineering contractors; industry and professional organizations; construction contractors; landowners;
Federal, state and local government staff/regulators; consultants; public.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field. (Electrical Engineering degree preferred)
  • Professional Engineer's license preferred.
  • Mgr, Engineering - A minimum of eight years of pipeline industry related experience in the engineering field, including three years of engineering project or operational leadership responsibilities.
  • Dir, Engineering - Fifteen years of successful pipeline industry engineering experience as a practicing engineer with experience performing highly technical work.
  • Superior level of technical knowledge, judgment and capability in pipeline engineering.
  • Superior project management skills.
  • Advanced leadership skills - uses personal talents and skills of others to achieve success on complex, high-level projects.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple issues and projects concurrently.
