Job SummaryThe Utilities Design Lead Engineer will oversee and lead utility design and relocation efforts across various projects nationwide. This role requires a deep understanding of utility design, coordination with third-party agencies, and managing in-house design teams. The Engineer will be responsible for developing this new service line within Rail Pros, preparing Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E), and mentoring CAD professionals and utility designers.
Additionally, they will manage utility relocations performed by third-party entities, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Lead and mentor a team for utility design and coordination while managing background documentation.
- Prepare Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) for in-house utility design.
- Manage subconsultants involved in utilities-related scope.
- Coordinate stakeholder utility engagements with third-party utility agencies.
- Develop and manage utility design efforts for engineering projects.
- Oversee field potholing operations to guide data collection and alternative solutions.
- Stay informed on regulatory changes affecting utility design and recommend necessary adjustments.
- Build and expand Rail Pros' utility design service line for future projects.
- Coordinate across departments to ensure utility design integration within larger projects.
- Develop in-house training presentations to educate teams on utility design capabilities.
- Represent Rail Pros at stakeholder meetings, conferences, and industry events.
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet business needs.
- Expertise in utility design and relocation processes with local and regional agencies.
- Strong project management and leadership skills to develop a new service line.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills for complex project challenges.
- Experience with CAD and design software including Bently Micro Station and AutoCAD products.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program.
- 8+ years of experience in utility design and relocation projects.
- ast leadership experience in managing utility design teams.
- Experience in utility relocation projects within a railroad environment. Additional Qualifications, Certifications, etc.
- Professional Engineer (PE) in home state.
- Member of professional practice organization, national board member or officer, recognized expert on statewide activity, resource for national activities and organization.
- Oversee the work of subconsultants, utility engineers, and designers.
- Provide mentorship and training to junior staff.
- Keep the Rail Pros Project Manager updated on project developments.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate preparation of PS&E for major projects.
- Ensure compliance with performance measures and internal policies.
- Participate in in-house project management training courses.
- Lead efforts to expand Rail Pros’ utility services.
