Salary Schedule 2025/26
  • Step 1 with a Bachelor's Degree: $56,320 (10% variance of $51,200)
  • Step 1 with a Master's Degree: $63,602 (10% variance of $57,820)
  • Salary credit may be awarded for applicable experience. Placement on the salary schedule will follow the applicable negotiated agreement.
Position Purpose

Pls for, teaches and facilitates learning for students. Creates a positive learning environment. Provides interventions and accommodations to support students’ participation and progress in the general curriculum. Maintains progress, records, and discipline. Works collaboratively with students, parents, building staff, and IEP team members to provide and implement IEP services meeting individual student needs. Effectively provides engaging academic instruction, assessment of student behavior through Functional Behavior Assessments and positive behavior supports and interventions via individualized Behavior Intervention Plans.

Skills and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education required.
  • Valid NE Teaching Certificate with endorsement in Special Education;
    Special Education Generalist preferred.
  • Develop positive relationships; promote mutual dignity and respect among students and staff.
  • Collaborate to identify student needs and implement strategies consistently.
  • Work interactively with students with patience.
  • Create and implement individualized Behavior Intervention Plans and review them regularly.
  • Target skill deficits and replacement behaviors identified through FBA.
  • Excellent attendance record.
  • Professional verification of successful classroom teacher performance and/or student teaching experience.
  • Comply with ethical and professional performance standards of the State Board of Education.
  • Foster positive human relationships and work effectively with students, staff, parents, and community.
  • Organizational, time‑management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Deliver instruction in accordance with approved curriculum and standards.
  • Maintain professional dress and appearance.
  • Strong verbal and written communication.
  • Philosophy that all students can learn.
  • Understand individual student needs.
  • Use Microsoft Outlook and the student information system.
  • Professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of crisis cycle and response.
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and pedagogy.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws regarding special education.
  • Knowledge of OPS’s mission, purpose, goals, and employee roles.
Essential Performance Responsibilities
  • Provide accommodations that can be implemented during services and collaborate with general education teachers.
  • Plan and guide learning to help students achieve program objectives.
  • Implement diagnostic and progress assessment measures.
  • Utilize paraprofessionals effectively.
  • Promote a safe and conducive classroom environment.
  • Complete FBA and BIP as needed.
  • Maintain updated individualized BIP.
  • Foster social skills instruction throughout curriculum.
  • Ensure compliance with special education procedures and timelines.
  • Maintain accurate record‑keeping and lesson planning.
  • Continuously assess progress toward IEP goals.
  • Develop cognitive, emotional and social learning capacities.
  • Foster self‑esteem.
  • Work with diverse student population.
  • Select effective instructional methods and materials.
  • Establish cooperative relationships with students.
  • Maintain open communication with parents, guardians and staff.
  • Provide de‑escalation and crisis response as needed.
  • Translate lesson plans into learning experiences.
  • Pursue professional development via seminars, workshops, meetings, or research.
  • Implement clear expectations and routines consistently.
  • Teach responsible citizenship and subject matters per applicable laws.
  • Coordinate with professional staff and participate in meetings and committees.
  • Comply with ethical and professional standards of district policy and the State Board of Education.
  • Collaborate to achieve program purpose and support district vision.
