Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Job Purpose / Overview
The Middle School Religion Teacher is responsible for fostering students’ spiritual, moral, and academic growth through engaging instruction in religious studies. The teacher supports students in developing a deeper understanding of the Catholic faith, scripture, tradition, and ethical living while creating a respectful, inclusive classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities / Duties

  • Plan and deliver age-appropriate religion curriculum aligned with school and diocesan standards
  • Teach scripture, Church teachings, sacraments, prayer, morality, and social justice
  • Integrate faith into daily instruction and model Christian values
  • Lead prayer, reflections, and liturgical activities appropriate to middle school students
  • Create a classroom environment that encourages inquiry, respect, and faith development
  • Assess student learning using a variety of instructional and evaluation methods
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support school-wide faith formation initiatives
  • Participate in school liturgies, retreats, service projects, and professional development
  • Maintain classroom management consistent with school policies

Education and Experience

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (Religion, Theology, Education, or related field preferred)
  • Practicing member of the faith tradition (for faith-based schools)
  • Knowledge of middle school developmental stages
  • Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills
  • Teaching certification or willingness to obtain required certification (preferred)
