Educational Service Unit #8 (ESU
8) is an educational service agency dedicated to supporting school districts and students across Northeast Nebraska. We provide essential services, including professional development, special education, mental health support, and grant management to schools in Stanton, Madison, Pierce, Boyd, Holt, Wheeler, and Antelope counties. Our main office is located in Neligh, NE.
ESU 8 is seeking a dynamic and experienced educator with excellent interpersonal skills to join our team as a Professional Learning Coordinator / Literacy Coach. This individual will be responsible for working collaboratively with ESU 8 school districts and other literacy coaches throughout the state to support service planning and to coordinate and deliver high-quality professional learning opportunities.
A key focus of this role is serving as a Literacy Coach, providing critical support to districts in implementing and maintaining quality educational instruction in reading and language arts, with a special emphasis on grades PK-3.
This position will require training days in the summer of 2026. The start date is yet to be determined. This position is financed by funds from the Nebraska State Legislature, the funding is guaranteed through spring 2027. Further funding is anticipated, but not guaranteed.
Required:
- A minimum of 5 years of successful experience as a classroom teacher in literacy or at the elementary level.
- A valid Nebraska Teaching and/or Administrative Certificate, Nebraska Driver’s License, and reliable transportation.
Preferred:
- A Master’s degree in educational leadership, curriculum, reading instruction, or a related field.

- Location: The position is based in our central office in Neligh, NE, and will require travel to the schools within our service area as well as travel to statewide training.
