Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The School Counselor provides student services through classroom lessons, small-group sessions, and individual (1:1) counseling, supporting the diverse needs of students in Preschool through 8th grade.

  • Deliver classroom guidance lessons focused on social-emotional learning, character development, and age-appropriate life skills
  • Facilitate small-group counseling sessions to support students with targeted needs such as friendship skills, emotional regulation, organization, coping strategies, and problem-solving
  • Provide individual (1:1) counseling sessions for students requiring additional support
  • Collaborate with teachers, administration, and support staff to address student needs and concerns
  • Support students with conflict resolution, peer relationships, and behavioral growth
  • Consult with parents/guardians regarding student progress and concerns
  • Participate in student support meetings, including intervention and problem-solving teams
  • Assist with crisis response and student safety procedures as needed
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records in compliance with school and Archdiocesan policies
  • Promote a positive, inclusive school culture grounded in Catholic teachings and values
  • Assist with school-wide social-emotional learning initiatives and programming
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal
Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of child and adolescent development across Preschool–8th grade
  • Ability to work effectively with students, families, faculty, and administration
  • Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • Commitment to the mission, teachings, and values of the Catholic Church
  • Ability to collaborate as part of a team
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required;
    Master’s degree in School Counseling or related field preferred
  • Nebraska Department of Education counseling certification
  • Experience working with elementary and/or middle school students preferred
  • Experience in a Catholic school setting is beneficial but not required
