Position SummaryPlan, implement and evaluate activity therapy and social skills programs for children, youth and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities which are both center and community based. The scope of the department includes (but is not limited to) swimming and aquatic therapies, adapted sports/games, art, music, dance, horticulture therapies, cooking, activities of daily living, as well as a wide variety of community based social recreation outings and field trips.

Qualifications Required EducationBachelor's degree or equivalent. (Will consider five years education/related experience)
Required Experience1 year working with children or adolescents/adults with developmental disabilities in an education, instructional, or therapeutic setting. (Will consider five years education/related experience)
Required LicenseValid driver’s license.
Required Computer ApplicationsMicrosoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook
Required Additional Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal communication and leadership skills
- Knowledge and understanding of developmental disabilities across the lifespan
- Knowledge of effective instructional methods and learning materials to help participants achieve their social and leisure goals
- Ability to instruct participants on social emotional regulation and communication skills
- Ability to assist with implementation of classroom behavior strategies and interventions as indicated in an Individual Education Plan (IEP) or other guidelines.
- Ability to work with persons who are medically fragile and possess multiple physical/sensory limitations
- Ability to supervise recreation technicians and volunteers through instruction and example
A degree in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation with (CTRS) credential /OR/ a degree in a related field such as:
Adapted Physical Education, Special Education, Music, Art or Dance Therapy, Education, Psychology or Child Life Medical Play Specialist is preferred.
