This role will be expected to report mainly out of x location, but will be on call for our other 3 practices.
Job Summary

We are seeking a reliable and patient-focused Orthodontic Assistant (Dental Assistant – Orthodontics) to support our orthodontist(s) in delivering high-quality, efficient care. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, compassionate, and comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical environment. This role plays a vital part in ensuring smooth patient flow, excellent chairside assistance, and a positive experience for patients and families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the orthodontist during procedures such as bonding, debonding, adjustments, and appliance placements
  • Prepare treatment rooms and patients for scheduled appointments
  • Take dental impressions, intraoral photos, and X-rays (if certified)
  • Place and remove archwires, bands, brackets, and ligatures under supervision and in accordance with state regulations
  • Sterilize instruments and maintain infection control standards
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene, appliance care, and post-treatment instructions
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
  • Manage operatory supplies and restock as needed
  • Support a smooth patient flow and contribute to a welcoming office environment
  • Comply with OSHA, HIPAA, and practice policies at all times

Qualifications & Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Dental Assistant or Orthodontic Assistant experience preferred (training provided for the right candidate)
  • Knowledge of orthodontic procedures and dental terminology preferred
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, patient-facing environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organization
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a clinical team
  • Certification or licensure as required by state regulations (e.g., X-ray certification)
  • CPR/BLS certification (or ability to obtain)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to [25–50] pounds as needed
  • Manual dexterity to handle dental instruments and equipment
