- Assist the orthodontist during patient treatments, including but not limited to placing and removing braces, taking impressions, adjusting wires, and applying and removing elastics and other orthodontic appliances.
- Ensure the patient is comfortable during procedures and respond to patient needs as necessary.
- Prepare patients for orthodontic treatments, explaining procedures and addressing any concerns.
- Ensure that patients are properly positioned and that instruments and materials are within reach to assist the orthodontist efficiently.
- Prepare and sterilize instruments, equipment, and materials used for treatments, ensuring compliance with infection control protocols.
- Maintain clinical areas, ensuring they are clean, organized, and well‑stocked with necessary supplies.
- Take diagnostic X-rays, panoramic images, or digital scans as required for treatment planning.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited orthodontic assisting program preferred.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as an orthodontic assistant or dental assistant, with a focus on orthodontic procedures preferred.
- Knowledge of orthodontic procedures, appliances, and terminology.
- Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with patients, families, and the orthodontic team.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
