Overview
A rapidly growing federal construction contractor is seeking a technically strong Project Engineer to support a major federal renovation project in Omaha. This role will support a renovation and vertical expansion adding two stories to an existing one-story structure. This is an excellent opportunity for a Project Engineer with strong technical construction knowledge, blueprint reading skills, and federal or healthcare construction exposure.
The position works directly alongside the Project Manager and Superintendent and is heavily focused on documentation, coordination, and technical project execution. The project is expected to run approximately 18 months and begin in April, with strong long-term growth opportunities.
- Provide day-to-day project engineering support for federal construction projects from mobilization through closeout
- Serve as a primary resource for project documentation, technical coordination, and compliance tracking
- Prepare, review, and manage: RFIs, Change orders, Submittals, Technical project documentation, Contract and specification tracking
- Review construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications to ensure project accuracy and compliance
- Support estimating review and cost tracking efforts throughout project execution
- Coordinate closely with the Project Manager and Superintendent to maintain schedule and budget alignment
- Work with architects, engineers, and subcontractors to resolve technical project questions and ensure documentation accuracy
- Support field coordination efforts and attend site walkthroughs as needed to verify project progress and resolve design or scope conflicts
- Maintain and organize project documentation and back-end administrative processes required for federal compliance
- Assist in identifying project risks and supporting timely issue resolution
This position is highly documentation and coordination focused and serves as the technical backbone of the project team. The Project Engineer will be responsible for performing the majority of project paperwork and documentation management while supporting field operations and project leadership. This is not primarily field-based or labor-focused, but candidates must be comfortable being onsite to support coordination and technical project verification.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications:
- 4–6 years of construction experience, ideally supporting commercial, federal, or healthcare projects
- Strong blueprint reading, specification review, and plan interpretation skills
- Experience managing RFIs, submittals, and change orders
- Strong technical problem-solving ability with attention to detail
- Experience coordinating with architects, subcontractors, and internal construction teams
- Ability to manage multiple documentation workflows simultaneously
- Comfort working onsite and supporting active construction environments
Preferred Qualifications:
- Federal construction experience
- Healthcare or medical facility construction experience
- Experience working on renovation or vertical expansion projects
- Exposure to estimating or cost tracking functions
- Experience working within federal compliance documentation environments
- Candidates whose experience is primarily residential or production homebuilding project engineering
- Candidates lacking technical documentation, specification review, or complex commercial construction exposure
Target compensation around $80,000 - $130,000, depending on experience, technical capabilities, and federal project exposure. 10% bonus for healthcare. 12 days of PTO. 6 paid holidays.
