We are adding Superintendents to our Central division of Kiewit to support our growing Infrastructure project portfolio around the country. As a Superintendent for us, you will lead and supervise all aspects of self-performed construction for a variety of infrastructure projects that could include site prep for major highway infrastructure projects, bridge projects, rail/transit, aviation, water/wastewater and power. This team performs mass grading/excavation, cut and fill, drainage, paving, underground piping and utility work, earthwork, site development, concrete form work, asphalt paving, and related activities.

Responsibilities
  • Perform daily inspections of work for Safety, Quality and Productivity.
  • Assure proper planning and communication for all operations that you oversee.
  • Identify and solve problems that arise. Establish budgetary guidelines for the job and ensure cost control measures are followed.
  • Provide job safety training and awareness for all personnel. Establish quality standards and ensure QA/QC and company standards are met.
  • Develop and manage job schedules (e.g. three-week, 90-day, man loading); coordinate work with other crafts, departments, contractors and suppliers.
  • Supervise the crew(s) and craft workers; supervise site prep, mass grading/excavation, drainage, paving, utility work, earthwork, concrete form work, asphalt paving and related activities.
  • Coordinate with superintendents, project engineers, field engineers and foremen to ensure smooth workflow and schedule adherence.
  • Resolve employee conflicts, grievances, and scheduling difficulties; inform project and corporate management as appropriate.
  • Manage project scope, schedule and budget; ensure changes are documented and approved; maintain communication with client and project teams.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with client; adjust deliverables to meet client needs within contractual obligations.
  • Ensure work products comply with industry standards, good engineering practice, and applicable codes.
  • Coordinate training and compliance measures; obtain necessary approvals for changes in project scope, budget or schedule.
  • Serve as project representative with client, constructors, subcontractors, and vendors at kick-offs, job walks, and project meetings.
  • Ensure safety, attendance and workplace behavior standards are followed as reflected in policy.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years in the construction industry with at least 5+ years in a supervisory/superintendent role overseeing self-performed construction; high school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in self-perform heavy infrastructure (highway, bridge, rail/transit, aviation, water/wastewater) with related activities.
  • Direct project oversight on EPC projects with self-performed work; strong safety and quality records.
  • Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Outlook; advanced knowledge of construction disciplines, safety regulations, scheduling, cost control, and contract documents.
  • Proven ability to supervise and evaluate craft performance; experience training and developing crews; willingness to relocate or travel.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, plans, and specifications; strong organization and attention to detail.
  • Motivated, proactive, problem-solver with strong work ethic; commitment to safety and integrity.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; team player able to work independently to meet deadlines.

  • Regular, reliable attendance; ability to work overtime and weekends as required.
  • Effective communication with supervisors, employees and others; ability to work safely and follow instructions.
  • Willingness to work at various locations and adapt to varying conditions; willingness to relocate to Tennessee area.

Location

This position will be based in the Tennessee/Kentucky region at the district office in Brentwood, Tennessee, near Nashville; projects may include TN, KY, NE, KS, and MS. Per diem is offered on projects; relocation to the Tennessee area is available.
