Accountant

Federal Construction Contractor | Omaha, NE (Hybrid/Flexible)

Overview

A rapidly growing federal construction contractor is seeking an experienced Accountant to support continued expansion and increasing federal project volume. This role is critical to strengthening financial operations, supporting multiple concurrent jobs, and ensuring accurate, compliant reporting in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

This position is ideal for a self-sufficient construction accountant who thrives in autonomy, is highly proficient in Sage systems, and has hands-on experience with AIA billing and accrual-based accounting.

Compensation

Salary: $80,000–$100,000 annually, depending on experience and skill set

Bonus:
Cash bonus to cover healthcare plans

Benefits:
Currently minimal; leadership plans to implement a comprehensive benefits package in 2026

PTO: 30 hours annually, increasing up to 56 hours; this is negotiable

Schedule:

Regular business hours with flexibility based on project activity

Omaha, NE

Remote:
Partial remote / flexible schedule available

Key Responsibilities

Provide financial forecasting and operational accounting support for federal construction projects

Manage and oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable (moderate volume)

Perform and manage AIA billing for federally funded construction jobs

Support accounting for multiple active projects simultaneously (historically up to ~10)

Prepare and maintain accrual-based, GAAP-compliant financial records

Deliver heavy Excel-based reporting, analysis, and financial insights

Collaborate with part-time accounting and project support staff

Support senior operations leadership with day-to-day financial and operational accounting needs

Assist with federal reporting requirements and compliance documentation as needed

Required Qualifications

Strong experience with Sage 100 Contractor or Sage Intacct experience also acceptable

Solid understanding of GAAP and accrual-based accounting

Advanced Excel proficiency, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and SUMIF

Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal oversight

Hands-on AIA billing experience

Experience supporting construction or project-based accounting environments

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Qualifications

Familiarity with WAWF (Wide Area Workflow); training can be provided

Payroll experience (payroll is handled internally within Sage)

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (experience may substitute)

Prior exposure to federal contracting or government-funded projects
