Job Description - Transportation Driver PRN (2600004F)

Responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of hospital vehicles, including 15 passenger vans, a wheelchair accessible bus, and four‑wheel drive vehicles. Also provides safe, timely, and efficient transportation of hospital patients, staff, and guests.

This is a PRN (as needed) position. Departmental hours of operation are Monday‑Friday 6:00 am‑6:30 pm.

Qualifications

Minimum Education – High School Diploma or GED (Required)

Minimum Work Experience – 2 years driving experience with a clean driving record (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge – Ability to read and utilize maps to determine the shortest route to destinations. Ability to operate all hospital vehicles safely, responsibly, and efficiently. Ability to communicate with the public, staff, and other drivers.

Required Licenses and Certifications – Valid Driver License or CDL Class C or higher with a P endorsement. CPR certified or ability to obtain within 6 months. Must provide a copy of Driving Record annually. Must be able to obtain D.O.T. Medical Examiners.

Job Functions
  • Familiar with the hospital and departmental safety plan and execute all job responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Familiar with hospital performance improvement concepts and participate in activities as needed.
  • Promotes the “RELATE” culture and a patient‑centered care environment.
  • Responsible for safely operating all HSC vehicles.
  • Operates HSC vehicles to transport patients, staff, or other individuals on authorized trips.
  • Transports supplies, runs daily shuttle service, makes pick‑up and/or drop‑offs of medication and/or instruments to and from CNMC.
  • Ensures all patients and passengers are properly secured in vehicle prior to proceeding on trips. Loads and unloads patients, equipment and supplies as required.
  • Complies with local traffic regulations.
  • Reports delays, accidents, and/or any unusual occurrences in accordance with established hospital procedures.
  • Must not have any moving violations on license.
  • Performs daily pre‑trip inspections on vehicles and reports any maintenance deficiencies, including checking tires, horn, windshield wipers, windows, etc. Maintains adequate gas level, fluid levels, and periodic checks of fire extinguishers and first aid kits.
  • Keeps interior and exterior of vehicle clean and maintains vehicle mileage logs.
  • Has ability to operate 2‑Way radio/cellular telephone.
  • Must always wear seatbelts when operating HSC vehicles.
  • Must be able to read maps and find the most timely route to destination.
  • Must be able to work independently at times and be available during adverse weather and emergency conditions.

Full‑Time Salary Range: $37,336 – $51,334.40
