Overview
Department of Ecology is hiring Washington Conservation Corps (WCC) Crew Supervisor 1 positions. WCC is an environmental service program within the Shorelands and Environmental Assistance (SEA) Program.
Funding through June 30, 2027. Continuous posting.

Multiple locations:
Olympic region includes Clallam, Jefferson, Grays Harbor, Kitsap, and Mason counties.
Field work required 40 hours per week; no telework. Typical schedule Monday‑Thursday 7:00 am‑5:30 pm. Alternative schedules (e.g., 10hour days with six days off) are possible during travel periods.
- May involve overnight travel, extended work, and deployment to disaster areas up to 30 consecutive days.
Supervise and mentor a crew of five WCC members performing natural resource assignments.
Responsibilities- Support crew in career and education development, safety, and inclusion.
- Recruit, interview, and select new crew members; plan and assign tasks.
- Evaluate performance, provide feedback, document issues, and recommend disciplinary action.
- Track and complete conservation projects; monitor materials, tools, and equipment usage and communicate progress to sponsors and staff.
- Complete and submit required paperwork: timesheets, travel logs, receipts, safety reports, production reports, hiring and termination forms, and evaluations.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of equipment (hand and power tools) and state‑owned/leased vehicles.
- Work often in inclement weather, rough terrain, wilderness areas; walking several miles per day; lifting up to 60 pounds repetitively.
- May require overnight travel, consecutive workdays up to eight days in travel status, work in excess of 40 hours per week, or deployment to disaster areas for up to 30 days.
- Three (3) years of experience equivalent to WCC field work, youth mentorship, or leadership.
- OR satisfactory completion of a two‑year Forest Technology Vocational Program and one (1) year of field experience.
- OR an Associate’s degree in Environmental Science or related field plus one ( year of field experience.
- Qualifying military experience may substitute for field experience, year for year.
- Experience in supervising and training employees in natural resource conservation.
- Field skill certifications such as Wilderness Firstesticide Operators License, and Wildland Firefighter Red Card.
- FEMA Disaster Response training (Intermediate Incident Command System (ICS 300) and Introduction to NIMS (IS‑700)).
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
