Division Overview: Crown’s Beverage Division manufactures a variety of packaging solutions for soft drinks, craft beers, coffees and teas as well as new energy drinks. Crown Beverage leads the packaging industry with innovative technologies that redefine how the world looks at beverage cans. With a large printable surface area and a wide range of sizes, shapes and decorating options, our aluminum cans are the perfect packaging format to create compelling brand presence where it counts.

Here at the Olympia Plant, we currently manufacture 12 oz. beverage cans. It is your chance to join the Crown Beverage Division.

Location

Here at the Olympia, Washington plant, we currently manufacture 12 oz. beverage cans. We are expanding to manufacture other size cans for some of the top consumer product companies. We are adding to our world class team to operate this facility and looking for a Machinist. It is your chance to join the Crown Beverage Division!

Position

This is a journey-level Machinist position requiring the machinist to calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow and depth and angle of cut. This position requires union membership after 30 days of hire.

Salary: $40.7183- $40.7183 average / per hour

Responsibilities
  • Primary responsibility for safety in all areas of the assigned duties, to ensure safety rules and regulations are met due to the use of high-speed industrial mechanical tools
  • Setting up and operating a variety of manufacturing machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. Parts will be made from blueprints, shop sketches and verbal instructions, so the ability to interpret drawings and sketches is necessary
  • Make and repair tools, fixtures, gauges, templates, dies, machine parts and instrument panels to precision tolerances using conventional machines
  • Frequently require overhaul work in a factory setting
  • Calculating dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers
  • Aligning and securing holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines
  • Selecting the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of manufacturing machinery work
  • Machining parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • A strong mechanical aptitude is required
  • Ability to work under time pressures and flexibility to adjust to sudden work patterns or schedules
  • Background in routine maintenance
  • Background in safety compliance – particularly Lock-out/Tag-out procedures
  • Candidates are expected to have positive attitude and work in a team environment. Machinists are expected to have a safety-first mentality and maintain a commendable attendance record
  • Design techniques, tools and principals involved in production planning, blueprints, drawings and models
  • Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
  • Mechanical troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge of gauges, micrometers and calipers
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance
  • Must also be able to use measuring devices accurately
  • Must be able to comply with all OSHA and WISHA safety rules and regulations
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time as well as work on elevated stationary platforms
  • Supply his/her own tools and maintain them at the plant
  • Must be able to work independently, with teams and have good interpersonal skills
Qualification Requirements

To qualify, you must currently be a journey-level Machinist.

  • At least five (5) years of current Journey-level machinist experience
  • High School diploma or GED; certificate or diploma from a trade school a plus
  • Five (5) years of experience using conventional machining of large parts, experience using machine equipment (lathes, mills, & balance machines)
