Office Support Supervisor 2 (OSS2) at Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner

Pay Range

Monthly salary: $3,925 - $5,271. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience.

Role Purpose

Join the Operations Division as an Office Support Supervisor in the Tumwater Office. This role leads a small team, ensures excellent customer service, and maintains service standards for the Office Support Unit.

Duties
  • Supervise and support a team of three Office Assistant 3 staff, providing guidance, coaching, and leadership
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and training for assigned staff
  • Assign, prioritize, and review work to meet deadlines and uphold customer service standards
  • Maintain staff schedules, approve leave and telework requests, and ensure appropriate coverage
  • Oversee daily operations of the Office Support Unit for accurate and timely service
  • Serve as a hands‑on leader, assisting with front desk, phone coverage, service of process, and other OSU work as needed
  • Develop and improve office support procedures, work methods, and documentation
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement to increase efficiency and satisfaction
  • Resolve customer service issues and complex situations with professionalism and sound judgment
  • Ensure staff training for emergency, safety, and incident response procedures
  • Collaborate with managers and staff across divisions to provide office support for priority or time‑sensitive work
  • Assess workload capacity and coordinate cross‑division support assignments for OSU staff
  • Serve as liaison between the Office Support Unit and other divisions to address shared needs
  • Maintain the agency-wide Subject Matter Expert directory
  • Coordinate or provide backup support for reception, travel coordination, public records assistance, and balance billing‑related functions
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • High school graduation or equivalent
  • Three (3) years of full‑time clerical and/or customer service experience, including one (1) year in a supervisory, mentoring, or training capacity
  • Basic skill in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Typing 40 words per minute
  • Associate’s degree or higher in a relevant field from an accredited institution, or a foreign equivalent with credential evaluation

Preferred/Desired Qualifications

  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel

  • Wage/salary depends on qualifications or state rules of compensation.
