Parkwood Behavioral Health System provides behavioral health and chemical dependency services to the Mid-South region and has been in business since 1987. We are located in Desoto County, in the northwest corner of Mississippi and approximately 7 miles south of Memphis.

Peer Support Specialist

Full-time

The Peer-Support Specialist will contribute in a peer support capacity to facilitate recovery and enhance wellness. The Certified Peer Specialist serves as a role model for recovery for staff and consumers and helps consumers to develop self-help skills and build support networks. The Peer Specialist provides peer support in a manner that positively supports facility operations in a manner that is consistent with the philosophy and objectives of Parkwood Behavioral Health System.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competency in the criteria listed in this job description. The specifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability to meet the minimum requirements for this position.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience: Minimum three (3) years’ experience in psychiatric/mental health field preferred. (1) One year experience in negotiating the mental health system (crisis services, vocational rehabilitation, human services, etc.)

Licensure/Certification: CPR Certification required. Current credentialing as a Certified Peer Specialist through the Department of Behavioral Health and Mental Retardation Services preferred. Valid TN driver’s license and MVR that complies with facility policy.

Knowledge: Demonstrates potential and skill in delivery of patient care. Demonstrates ability to provide support to individuals with consideration to special needs and behaviors of specific age groups.
