Lab Technician

The Materials Lab Technician plays a key role in supporting our engineering and construction quality programs through laboratory‑focused testing and analysis. This position centers on hands‑on laboratory work with soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel, while also providing supplemental field testing and sampling when needed. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys technical, detail‑driven work and contributing directly to the quality and safety of construction projects.

Primary Responsibilities

+ Conduct laboratory testing on soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, and ACI standards.

+ Prepare, cure, and test concrete cylinders for compressive strength.

+ Perform soil classification and compaction tests, including moisture content, Atterberg limits, Proctors, and sieve analyses.

+ Complete asphalt laboratory procedures such as mix testing, compaction, and gradation.

+ Accurately record, calculate, and interpret laboratory data for reporting.

+ Maintain laboratory equipment, tools, and work spaces in clean, calibrated, and organized condition.

+ Support field sampling, nuclear density testing, and construction observations as needed.

+ Assist drill crews during geotechnical investigations on an occasional basis.

Required

Skills & Qualifications

+ Knowledge of ACI procedures, soil testing, and construction materials testing.

+ ACI Field Grade I certification (strongly preferred).

+ Minimum 1 year of experience with nuclear density testing and concrete testing.

+ High school diploma or equivalent; technical coursework or lab experience preferred.

+ Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

+ Ability to lift 50-75 lbs and work in both laboratory and field environments.

Work Environment

Work hours vary seasonally, typically ranging from 45-55 hours per week during peak construction months. Standard start time is 7:30 AM with end times around 5-6 PM. Saturday availability is required when workload demands it. During the slower winter season (December-March), hours are generally Monday-Friday, 8 AM-4:30/5 PM.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Olive Branch, MS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
