Shovel Driver
Location:
OL2 (Oldham)
Pay: £14.00 - £16.00 per hour (depending on experience)
Hours:
Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 5:00pm + 1 in 3 Saturdays
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
The RoleWe are looking to recruit an experienced Shovel Driver to join our team at our Oldham depot. This is a hands‑on role with supervisory responsibilities, overseeing yard operations while ensuring all machinery and vehicles are operated safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain and promote a safe working environment in full compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Conduct daily visual and operational checks on plant and machinery, reporting defects promptly.
- Oversee safe and correct loading of vehicles (including tippers and articulated vehicles).
- Ensure adherence to environmental, health and safety policies and site permits.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and hazard‑free yard environment.
- Plan and coordinate workloads to maximise operational efficiency.
- Communicate effectively with drivers, yard operatives, and management.
- Promote best practices to maintain high operational and safety standards.
- Ensure all pre‑use and routine machine checks are completed and recorded.
- Supervise yard staff, ensuring tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
- Manage booking and dispatch of outbound materials with accurate documentation.
- Work closely with the Site Manager to improve productivity and site performance.
Essential:
- Proven experience operating a shovel.
- Experience driving plant/machinery.
- Strong understanding of health and safety procedures.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
Desirable:
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Grab machine experience.
- NVQ qualification (beneficial but not required).
- Competitive hourly rate (£14.00 - £16.00 depending on experience).
