Medical Director & Consultant Psychiatrist
We are seeking an experienced full-time Medical Director and Consultant Psychiatrist who will work at Cygnet Kenney House and provide senior medical cover on our 16 bed acute service for women. The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician and will oversee and maintain the care of all ward inpatients as required and will also have responsibility for auditing the medical services rendered at the ward and ensuring their good quality in accordance with GMC standards of good medical practice and other relevant professional guidelines.
Apart from being the Responsible Clinician at Cygnet Kenney House, you will also be the Medical Director on Baldock ward, our 16 bed female emergency acute inpatient service.
This is a full-time position with 0.2 WTE as Medical Director and 0.8 WTE as Consultant Psychiatrist.

Main duties and ResponsibilitiesAs a Medical Director you will:
- Ensure optimal clinical outcomes for the people in our care
- Lead on all aspects of clinical practice and serve as an example of operational excellence
- Provide leadership for medical staff on professional and managerial issues whilst monitoring their performance
- Supervise consultants and ensure supervision of SDs and ASs
- Provide expert knowledge and support within the service and to the wider team
- Ensure quality and compliance with internal and external standards and regulations
- Work with colleagues to provide integrated, whole-person treatment and care
- Coach, mentor and train colleagues
- Ensure regular communication and meetings with medical staff
- Assist in recruitment and retention of medical staff for a high-quality clinical service
- Ensure medical staff are involved in hospital clinical governance
- Work with hospital managers to lead on CQC outcomes
- Chair medical advisory committee meetings and attend Cygnet Medical Directors meetings
- Liaise with the Responsible Officer and Regional Medical Director regarding fitness to practice concerns for medical staff
As a Consultant Psychiatrist you will:
- Lead on the provision of high-quality care to service users admitted to Baldock ward
- Be a positive role model toward patients, families, visitors and staff
- Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team
- Assess referrals and undertake mental state examinations
- Undertake investigations, diagnosis and treatment as appropriate
- Conduct ward rounds, patient reviews and clinical audits
- Lead risk assessment, risk management and embed clinical governance
- Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals and attend hearings
- Liaise with the Ministry of Justice for transfer of patients and leave approvals
- Maintain good patient records
- Maintain regular communication with the Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager
- Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, staff and other stakeholders; maintain appropriate reports
- Attend and contribute to academic meetings and adhere to GMC CPD standards
- Contribute to the on-call rota
- Salary up to £175,000 per year (dependent on experience)

The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS and reference check; an offer of employment will be subject to successful clearance.
Qualifications:
Fully GMC registered and MBBS (or equivalent);
Specialist Register (CCT/CESR), Section 12 and AC status; MRCPsych or equivalent; knowledge of Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Practice.
